Looking to convert your loft?
How to make the most of your loft conversion space
If you are looking for more space in your home then loft conversions are a great way to achieve that. Similar to extensions, loft conversions increase the living space in your home, but without the need to take up more land space. Attic rooms converted to useable living spaces can also increase the value of your home if they are built correctly, safely and use the right insulation.
If you are considering a loft conversion, here are some great ideas for how to make the most out of the new space you will have:
Extending your attic space
What space do you need most? - First of all, consider what you would like to do with the new space. Do you want to add an extra bedroom to your home? Maybe you would like to convert your attic room or loft into a music or hobby room, or a new bathroom or master suite?
Loft conversions are also great for adding space for guests or, if you have teenagers, then it’s a space for them to escape to and have more privacy.
Once you are clear on what you will use the loft conversion for, you can start to plan the layout.
Storage solutions
With its unique shape due to the sloping roof, a loft conversion has more areas that can be used as storage space. Consider using corners where the roof is low, or roof eaves as storage spaces to keep things.
A great way to separate storage space from the main room, such as a bedroom or bathroom is to use sliding doors. With loft conversions, sliding doors not only look great, but they also optimise space compared to traditional doors that swing open.
Loft conversion layouts
The different loft extension layouts are a consideration because loft conversions can be cosy and very stylish, but they do have less headroom around the edges. For this reason, we recommend designing your space to make the most of the layout.
If you are adding an extra bedroom, then consider placing the bed where the roof is lower. Similarly, for a bathroom, consider putting the bath and storage space around the edges
Lighting up your space
When any form of home renovations are being done such as extensions or roof conversions, it’s important to add the right level of lighting and great-looking lighting can make a huge difference to how fantastic your new space looks!
One way to add real style and light to roof conversions is by installing skylights. Installing skylights in the right areas (such as either side of the eaves) can add considerable light during the day and make the room feel much more airy and spacious.
Planning for home extensions?
Other elements to consider - There are a lot of ways that you can benefit from a loft conversion and, with the right planning, it can make a difference to your home living.
Other elements you should consider are how the loft area will be accessed, should you use stylish wall-mounted handrails and how do you want to provide heat and electricity to the new area?
Unlike extensions, loft conversions provide more warmth from the rest of the house, but they will still need electricity and heating.
